Forgive One Another 7-25-2010

Luke 11:1-4
Forgive One Another Faces tell a lot. Is the person happy, sad, angry, worried, envious, joyful or confident? Faces reveal emotions and spiritual condition to those who see them. A smile is welcoming. A frown is off-putting. Christians are supposed to be joyful even when suffering. How? Faith, God’s power and the hope of heaven. But, even Christians often look distraught. Unforgiveness is a big cause of scowling faces. In life, other people will insult, neglect, and hurt you. They will sin against you. The question is: what do you do with that sin? If you keep it, your face will show it. Unforgiveness results in grudges, life controlling, demon-like possession of hatred toward others that leads to hell. God offers forgiveness to you because Jesus Christ paid for all sins on the cross. The disciples asked Jesus how to pray. He told them (Luke 11:1-4 ESV): "Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation." Do we forgive others as we desire God to forgive us? Or, do we want to be forgiven, but hold a grudge against someone else wanting them to suffer miserably? That is what the unforgiving servant did (Matthew 18:21-35). But God is not fooled, He punishes those who accept mercy, but deny it to others. Examine your heart. Is there anyone you need to forgive? Is there anyone whom you have hurt that you need to ask forgiveness from? Ask your Father in heaven for power to forgive. Luke 11:13 says, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" Jesus Christ loved you so much that He gave His very body and blood so that you might have forgiveness and share that forgiveness with others. Face it! Forgive one another in His name so that your face will glow with His love. Amen. Pastor Raymond Van Buskirk, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Baytown, TX www.rlcbaytown.org
