John 3:2
Nicodemus was a ruler of the Jews. He came to Jesus to test an proposition (John 3:2 ESV): "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him." Jesus cut to the chase: "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." But, Nicodemus, like us, filtered the good news through his human mind and
doubted: How can a grown man come out of his mother’s womb a second time?
That is the problem with human thinking. If we can’t think of how to do something, we figure that no one else can either, not even God.
Humans think limitations and impossibilities. God thinks unlimited possibilities.
Another ruler of the Jews came to Jesus and asked to be saved. Jesus told him to sell his possessions and follow him. He left sad because he had great riches. Those who heard it said (Luke 18:26), "Then who can be saved?" Jesus answered, "What is impossible with men is possible with God."
As long as we resist God through human logic, we cannot receive the kingdom of heaven. God speaks His Word (Genesis 1:26): "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” And mankind is created. He made us and He can fix us.
John 3:16-17 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
The Holy Spirit works faith through those very words. God recreates all who hear those words and do not resist by human logic. He saves you by making you part of the very body of Christ and gives you His righteousness and holiness. God’s Word is powerful. It saves the least educated -- little children. Jesus said (Luke 18:16): "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such
belongs the kingdom of God.” God saves wicked sinners. Saint Paul
said (1 Tim. 1:16): “But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost [sinner], Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.”
Share the Gospel with friends, relatives, co-workers, even strangers.
See God work miracles and save them. That is ‘born again in Jesus.’
Amen.
