Tongue Check 9-13-2009

James 3:1-12
Tongue Check Had your tongue checked recently? Doctors check for diseases, physical ailments. The worst ailments of the tongue are spiritual. Saint James (James 3:1-12 ESV) said that the tongue is a small organ that causes a world of unrighteousness and sets ablaze our lives with fire from hell. Ever regretted words that came from your tongue? I have many times. You can tame wild animals, but no human has the power to tame a tongue. It curses, gossips, destroys relationships and people, loses jobs, runs off friends and customers, and offends people who were created in the very image of God. Hopeless mess? God sent His only Son to earth with an “instructed tongue” (Isaiah 50:4-10). He called people to repent and to turn their tongues from cursing God and people to blessing them. He bore your sins and took your abuse. He won forgiveness, salvation and eternal life for you. Jesus Christ has the power to free your tongue and your whole body from the curse of sin, death and the devil. He has the power to make the mute sing wonderful praises and to drive out the demons of addiction and spiritual oppression. Hear His Word – “All things are possible for one who believes.” (see Mark 9:14-29) Pray for His intervention. Let Him turn your tongue from cursing to blessing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
