Isaiah 51:6 Last Chance 2012
Several recent movies portray the end of the earth. There are
religious and secular books and movies about the End. Viewers love
dramatic ends.
The Bible tells us about a dramatic end: "The heavens vanish like
smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment, and they who dwell in
it will die in like manner" (Isaiah 51:6 ESV). Saint Peter says that
when the Lord Jesus Christ returns, the earth will be destroyed by
fire (2 Peter 3) - none of this wimpy global warming of one degree
per decade.
Jesus said that there will be terrible calamities before the End:
earthquakes, wars, famines, persecution of Christians, false
prophets, and abominations (Mark 13). We have all that now plus
tsunamis, hurricanes, and plagues.
Jesus tells us that no one on earth knows the Last Day. But, how
would you act differently if you knew it was in 2012?
Some might spend all of their time and money on wild living. Others
might locate lost friends and relatives, do some good for others,
acts of kindness and generosity, tell others "I love you," ask for
forgiveness, reconcile, read their B.I.B.L.E.S. (Basic Instructions
Before Leaving Earth).
Jesus Christ tells us to stay awake in the faith while we wait for
the end. Saint Jude said, "Wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus
Christ that leads to eternal life. Have mercy on those who doubt;
save others by snatching them out of the fire." Witness to the grace
and mercy of Jesus Christ while you still have time.
Most of us face our end the old fashioned way, on a hospital bed.
Think abut how you want to be remembered. Last chance 2012?
