Luke 21:27-28 Raise Your Heads! The good news of the Advent/Christmas season is that Jesus Christ became flesh and bore our sins us and He will return to save all believers. Raise your heads! “And then [after the signs of the End] they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." Luke 21:27-28 (ESV) Daze. At the End, unbelievers are bent over in agony. They experience fear, dismay, helplessness, and spiritual depression. People who realize their lost condition, those who know their shame, often bend their heads to the ground just like a prisoner does who is in chains. They have no hope. Raise. God’s Word tells believers to stand tall and raise their heads. He calls those who have been bent down by sin and the oppression of the world to be unburdened through faith in Jesus Christ. We are to be watchful, aware of the evil and calamities in the world, but continually refreshed by Word, Sacrament and our God who helps, protects and comforts us in all our times of trouble. Jesus sets the prisoners free through the grace of His life, death and resurrection for the forgiveness of our sins. Praise. Get ready! Like to sing and jump for joy with 100 million angels? Ready for an imperishable body that never gets sick or dies? Prepared for reunion with the saints in heaven, all of your loved-ones who have gone on to heaven? Stand tall. Raise your head. Look for the Second Coming of Christ Jesus with great power and glory riding on the clouds with His angles and the saints in heaven. Sing praise, your redemption and deliverance is near! Amen.
