Luke 3 No Plain Water
John the Baptist proclaimed a baptism for the forgiveness of sins
(Luke 3). Exactly what God told him to do.
People needed it. God provided lots of water. Everyone was coming
to John, even hypocrites. John warned them: “Do good deeds in
keeping with repentance.” No ordinary bath, but a new way of life.
No plain water in baptism. It has God’s promises, command and
presence. You see, Jesus joined the water. Foreshadowed his cross,
cleansing blood in the water. The Father was well pleased.
Lots in baptismal water – death to sin, new life with Christ,
forgiveness, freedom from sin, eternal death and the devil.
How is your baptism doing? More than plain water! Amen.
