Luke 1:39-56 Leap for Joy
John the Baptist leapt for joy at the approach of the Christ child
(Luke 1:39-56 ESV). It did not matter that John was in the womb of
Elizabeth and Jesus was in the womb of Mary. God gave the baby John
faith through the gift of the Holy Spirit and that faith leaps for
joy in the presence of Christ.
Mary leapt for joy: "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit
rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of
his servant.” Elizabeth confirmed what the angel had told Mary. She
was carrying the Lord. Mary was most blessed of all women. She
carried the fulfillment of God’s promise to send the Savior to His
people Israel. The humble Mary carried the hope of mankind, the Word
of God, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Mercy, strength,
justice, provision, grace, rescue, and blessing all wrapped into a
baby.
Do you leap for joy at the thought of the Savior coming to save you?
Do you see the arms of Jesus lifting you out of the waters of
Baptism? Do you see His arms catching you when you fall into sin?
Do you see His arms leading and healing you? Do you see His arms
covered with the blood of His cross? Do you see His hands washing
your feet and anointing your head? Can you imagine Him riding on the
clouds with millions of angels coming to raise you and all the dead
unto eternal life?
Leap for joy! Amen.
