Luke 2:10
Joy in Christ Jesus!

And the angel said to the shepherds, "Fear not, for behold, I bring
you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people.” (Luke
2:10 ESV)

It was long-awaited, but unexpected news.  Shepherds out in the
fields on a dark night – if they heard any news, it was usually bad,
a wolf trying to eat the sheep.  But that Christmas night, God was
carrying out His plan to save sinners.  The promise was for all
people, even dirty, poor shepherds.  What good news could they
expect?  They were not even welcome to enter Temple.  This is the
good news: God saves all types, no matter how dirty or covered with
sin.  There is real joy in Christ Jesus!

God did not send a military general, but a small baby – power in
understatement.  The multitude of angels sent to witness the birth
could not help from shouting, "Glory to God in the highest, and on
earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"  Good news like
that cannot be contained.  It floods out in shouts of joy.

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is
Christ the Lord.”  The joyful news was not just the birth of a baby,
it was the death of a man – the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the
cross, full payment for sin, once for all, for the sins of the whole
world.

Are you filled with joy?  Joy is the wonderful presence of God in
your heart, reassuring you that you are His child, forgiven,
reconciled, and promised riches of heaven in divine love and
fellowship for all eternity.  Many people have no joy.  They trust in
their own efforts and goodness, or perhaps do not think about the
future and how lost they are.  Instead, believe on the name of Christ
Jesus and be saved!

Having a Savior is joyful.  He is the One who breaks your chains,
frees you from captivity to the devil, eternal death and your sin.
The shepherds faced death and evil every day.  The coming of the
Savior was the best news ever.  It meant victory.

Hear the angel voices.  Your Savior is born!  Joy in Christ Jesus.
Amen.
