Spiritual Gifts to Serve 1-17-10

1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Spiritual Gifts to Serve

God gives us the spiritual gift of faith so that we may trust in the
Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.  He also gives us other spiritual
gifts so that we may serve others in this world and witness to the
goodness, mercy and grace of God.

Saint Paul explains (1 Corinthians 12:4-7 ESV): “Now there are
varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of
service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities,
but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is
given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

What are your spiritual gifts and how are you using them?  Some
people say, “I do not have any gifts.”  That is not true.  Every
believer has spiritual gifts, not the same ones, but at least one.
And I have never met anyone who only had one.  Why discover them?  So
that you may fulfill the purpose that God placed you on earth for.
There is nothing more important than knowing Jesus Christ as your
Savior and fulfilling the purpose for your life.  That is true joy,
not only for you, but also for the people you serve in Jesus’ name.

Some people know their spiritual gifts, but use them primarily to
serve themselves.  That is selfishness and rebellion.  The devil
tempted Jesus Christ to use His power to turn stones into bread
(Matthew 4).  But, Jesus told him that “man does not live by bread
alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”  God
tells us to use our spiritual gifts “for the common good.”

Ask fellow Christians to help you learn about and develop your
spiritual gifts that you may fulfill your purpose in life and have
the joy of seeing others benefit in Christ to God’s glory.  Amen.
