Luke 4:31-44 Freedom from Sin, Death, and the Devil Produces Love
This is God’s love for you: that when you were dead in your sins and
trespasses, Christ died for you and brought you freedom from sin,
death and the devil.
Luke 4:31-44 (ESV) gives us examples of each type of healing that
Jesus brought to us. To a man in the synagogue possessed by a demon
He said: "Be silent and come out of him!" And the man was freed that
very moment. Demons have no choice when faced with the power of
Jesus Christ. They must obey and leave their victims.
Jesus healed Saint Peter’s mother-in-law: “And he stood over her and
rebuked the fever, and it left her, and immediately she rose and
began to serve them.” Jesus has power over every illness and those
who are healed are expected to show their joy in serving Him.
Jesus provided eternal healing for us, the forgiveness of sins by
grace through faith in Him on account of what He did for us, His
suffering and death on the cross to pay for our sins. It was His
mission: "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the
other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose."
Have you been freed from sin, death, and the devil? If so, be like
Saint Peter’s mother-in-law, serve Jesus Christ. Believers are to
let the love of Christ flow from their hearts. “Love is patient and
kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It
does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it
does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all
things.” (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
Love is God’s greatest gift. It is the condition left by freedom
from sin, death and the devil. It is the very nature of God and the
ultimate value worth having. Love is the sign of the maturing
Christian and the language of heaven. Amen
